Reader’s Question:

I have read a brochure for a health insurance policy here in Miami that says there’s “extra income” from it for those who purchase within the promo period. How can this be legally feasible?

No way, Anne.

You better stay away from any health insurance company in Miami that use “extra income” or any of these terms in their ads: “tax free”, “extra cash”, “extra pay”. No one ever gets a profit from being hospitalized! And besides, health insurance policies are designed to cover medical expenses and not for an opportunity to earn profit. Positive sounding phrases, which are common to all insurance advertisements, are very misleading. It is still better to ask around first. The internet can be a great pool of information for all health insurance information you need. Unbiased reviews can also be found online. If you’re not sure about what you’re buying, then do not buy!

I remember an advertising phrase on a health insurance policy that says: “LOW COST”. In most cases I have heard for health insurance, you always get what you pay for. No such thing as exceptional low-cost when it comes to the insurance and if it happens, there are usually limitations…which is for you to find out because most health insurance agents will not mention these just to close a deal. Something is definitely wrong for low cost health insurance which does not have any limitations. I’d rather suggest you insist explanation for every limitation…and move ahead if you are not satisfied with such limitations…especially you definitely can’t skimp for a health insurance policy.
